Mark Meredith, MD, FACEP, CPE, FACPE, attended medical school at Bowman Grey School of Medicine 1974-1978, and completed his residency in emergency medicine at North Carolina Baptist Hospital (now Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist) 1978-1981.

Dr. Meredith practiced at Memorial Hospital of Burlington County in Mount Holly, NJ, 1981-1992 as a staff physician and assistant chairman. He practiced at Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ as the chair of emergency medicine from 1992 to 2013. He then transitioned to urgent care until semi-retirement in September 2021.

Dr. Meredith has been an ACEP member since 1979, has represented NJ on the ACEP Council since 1989, and been a member of the Reference Steering Committee since 1993. He was a member of the Chapter Advisory Panel 1988-1994 (chair 1992-1994), Wellness Committee 1994–2003 (co-chair 1997-1998, chair 1998-1999), Coding and Nomenclature Committee since 2004 (chair 2008-2011), Reimbursement Committee 2005-present, Section Grant Review Committee 2008-2015, and ACEP advisor to the AMA CPT Advisory Panel 2012-present.

Dr. Meredith has served on various NJ ACEP committees over the years including Membership, Long-Range Planning, Education, Reimbursement, Government Affairs, Practice Management, and Communications.

Dr. Meredith was ABEM-certified in 1982. He was a member of the ABEM Board of Directors from 2004-2012, and served on various committees including Test Development, Test Administration, Credentials, MOC (chair 2009-2012), Initial Certification Task Force and ADA Subcommittee. He participated in oral (certification) exams since 1982.

Dr. Meredith was an active member of county and state medical societies. He served in all officer positions in the county medical society (president 1992-1993). He served as medical director for Burlington County First Aid Academy, Medical Director of MICU Memorial Hospital of Burlington County 1984-1992, as a member of the New Jersey State Advisory Council for Basic and Intermediate Life Support 1994-1998, Civil Surgeon 2018-2021, Chair of Emergency Department Community Medical Center 1992-2006, and CMO, CMIO for Urgent Care Now 2014-2020.

Dr. Meredith is the husband of Amy Meredith; father of Kimberly, Jacob, Matthew, and Joshua; and grandfather to Joe, Alex, Jacob, Bridget, and Chelsea.

About This Award

The John A. Rupke Legacy Award is presented to a current College member for outstanding lifetime contributions to the College. In recognition of longevity and unwavering dedication to the College, the Legacy award is given in honor of John A. Rupke, MD, one of the initial founding members of the College.
