George RJ Sontag, MD is an emergency physician practicing in central Ohio. His policy interests include physician engagement in health care reform, LGBTQ+ advocacy, and nicotine cessation. His background includes twenty years of community and public policy development in the non-profit and government sectors. Political campaign and public policy roles include work at the city, county, state, and federal levels.

Notable past leadership roles in emergency medicine include serving as the President of EMRA and as the ACEP/EMRA Congressional Health Policy Fellow, and serving in the office of US Congressman and emergency physician Raul Ruiz. He currently serves with Ohio ACEP as an ACEP Councillor and as chair of the Government Affairs Committee. His education includes medical school at Wright State University and residency at UT Health San Antonio. He and his husband live in Columbus.

About This Award

The Council Horizon Award is presented to an individual within the first five years of council service who demonstrates outstanding contributions and participation in Council activities.  The award is given as needed, not necessarily annually.
