Kathryn Wiesendanger (Dublin, Ireland)

I'm a fourth-year medical student at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Applying to the EM Match this cycle.

Being a medical student in the midst of this pandemic is hard. We're behind in our clinical skills. We feel defeated by morale in the emergency department. And with insurmountable financial debt, often find ourselves questioning our career choice.

With more virtual learning from home, I'm taking advantage of the free time I otherwise wouldn't have had this summer.

I'm talking to my therapist, practicing self-compassion and journaling before bed, each night to hone skills and self-reflection and resilience before joining you all on the front lines next year.

I'm also utilizing the positive aspects of Twitter to keep me excited and inspired to become an emergency physician, something I've dreamed about since I was a little girl.
