Defending you from scope creep

ACEP Chapters were directly involved in five major wins during the 2021-22 legislative session. Misguided bills were thwarted in Kentucky, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Louisiana and Colorado, with support from a comprehensive advocacy toolkit.
ACEP launched an aggressive public education campaign that spelled out a clear message to the press, federal policymakers, and patients: There is no substitute for an emergency physician in emergency departments.
Four resolutions were passed by the 2022 ACEP Council to enhance oversight of non-physicians on the care team.

Protecting you from bad actors

ACEP stood up for the specialty when a flawed AHRQ report on diagnostic errors was sensationalized in the media.
The ACEP Board reaffirmed our core belief that the physician-patient relationship is the moral center of medicine, and approved the ACEP Statement on Private Equity and Corporate Investment in Emergency Medicine.
We submitted 100+ member stories and your president testified to the FTC about consolidation's impact on EM.
ACEP is protecting your right to freely practice medicine and commented in support of the FTC's proposed ban of predatory non-compete clauses.
Leading up to ACEP23, we are mandating transparency of all emergency physician employers' structure, governance and funding.

Pushing for boarding solutions

ACEP took your passionate stories to the White House, and influenced 34 other health care and patient advocacy groups to sign on to our letter.
ACEP launched a powerful digital storybook featuring 150 of our members' boarding stories, highlighted in 550 publications nationwide.
Reached out to governors and provided chapters a toolkit to address this crisis at the local level.

Fighting for your reimbursement

ACEP’s work this year prevented a $30 million dollar loss for Medicare patients treated with just the E/M code 99284 - essentially around $800 savings per member.
ACEP is the only EM organization with a seat on the RUC, the highly influential group that makes recommendations to the federal government on how you are paid.
ACEP developed the first-ever EM-focused alternative payment model preparing for the shift to value-based care.
