Dr. Brown is the founding chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine (EM) at Michigan State University (MSU) College of Human Medicine (CHM). During his early faculty tenure, Dr. Brown developed an interest in translating research evidence into clinical practice. This focus led him to pursue an MSc in Epidemiology, specializing in evidence synthesis and diagnostic test accuracy meta-analysis.

Dr. Brown’s EM leadership portfolio spans regional, national, and international organizations. He served on the Michigan College of Emergency Physicians Board of Directors, as chair of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Clinical Policies Committee, and was Senior Associate Editor for the Annals of Emergency Medicine Systematic Review Snapshot series. More recently, he led the Key Advances Panel for the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) and served as President of the Association of Academic Chairs of Emergency Medicine (AACEM). Internationally, Dr. Brown was the inaugural senior editor for the Cochrane Acute Care Network and currently serves on the Cochrane Editorial Board, where he is the lead editor for Cochrane Evidence Synthesis and Methods.
