
Douglas Char, MD, MA, FACEP, has been a member of ACEP since 1995, upon graduating from the Denver Health Emergency Medicine Residency. He was recruited to Washington University in St. Louis, founding the EM training program, which he led for 15 years. His area of clinical expertise is Acute Cardiovascular Emergencies. He currently serves as Vice-Chair for Academic and Faculty Affairs.
Dr Char is a long-time member of the Missouri College of Emergency Physicians. He has been on the Board of Directors for 13 years. He served as Vice President and then President from 2012 to 2016. He was elected a chapter Councilor in 2006 and has attended the Council meeting for over 20 years. He has attended over a dozen ACEP Leadership and Advocacy Conferences during this time.
Dr Char has served the Council on various Reference committees as well as the Nominating, Bylaws and Standing Rules, and Compensation Committees. He served on the Council Steering Committee in 2017-2018. A long-serving Tellers and Credentials member, he chaired the committee from 2022 to 2025.
Besides his involvement with the Council, Dr Char has been active within the College, serving on the Education, Well-being, Chapter Bylaws, Membership, Academic Affairs and Disaster Preparedness Committees. He was a member of the Reproductive Health and Patient Safety Taskforce and represented ACEP and CORD on the 2009 and 2011 Model of the Clinical Practice of Emergency Medicine Review Taskforce.
When not advocating for our patients and the specialty, or teaching residents and medical students, he can be found chasing natural and man-made disasters with the Missouri state and federal (Midwest-1) Disaster Medical Assistance Team, which he helped found in 2000. He currently deploys as Senior Medical Officer on the HHS/ASPR’s Incident Management Team.
