Greg Cannon, MD, FACEP, grew up in Houston, Texas, and graduated from Harvard College and Vanderbilt School of Medicine. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at the University of Cincinnati, graduating in 1998. Dr. Cannon was clinical faculty at Cincinnati before joining Wake Emergency Physicians, PA (WEPPA) in 2002. He served in various leadership roles with WEPPA as well as faculty for WEPPA’s pediatric emergency medicine fellowship.

Greg became involved in organized medicine at the state level in 2004 and, from the beginning, was interested in political advocacy with both the North Carolina College of Emergency Physicians and the NC Medical Society. He started attending LAC in 2004 as the only emergency physician from North Carolina and has participated continuously since then. Greg rotated through NCCEP leadership and was chapter president in 2012. He was the chair of the NCCEP legislative committee for 12 years. He also helped lead the House of Medicine in North Carolina’s very successful tort reform law passed in 2011.

Greg has been a full councilor since 2008 and specializes in testimony at the reference committee level and has been a big fan of online asynchronous testimony. He has served on multiple reference committees, including under recent council speaker Kelly Gray-Eurom and current ACEP President Anthony Cirillo.

He also appreciates the “backroom” approach to networking with other councilors and chapters to help pass resolutions and vet and support national ACEP Candidates. The ACEP council is full of dedicated leaders of the specialty who dedicate great effort to protect our ability to practice and take care of patients. At the same time, everyone enjoys great camaraderie, and comparisons to a work family are apt. It is a privilege to be part of this outstanding organization.
