Community Emergency Medicine Excellence Award – Betzaida Gonzales Valentin, MD, FACEP

Betzaida González Valentín, originally from Puerto Rico, completed her Emergency Medicine training in 2007 and has practiced with commitment and passion ever since. She is a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician with more than 19 years of clinical experience, a proud Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians, and currently practices in the Texas Rio Grande Valley. She serves as Core Faculty for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at STHS and has extensive expertise in Emergency Department and EMS management. Throughout her career, she has held multiple leadership roles as a medical director, making meaningful improvements in facilities and teams while building strong, lasting professional relationships.

Dr. González completed the prestigious ACEP Emergency Department Directors Academy and is among the few nationwide to complete EDDA Phase 4, with a project focused on improving patient flow. Her leadership also includes service as past president of Puerto Rico ACEP, as well as roles as a counselor and board member.

For Dr. González, family comes first, and service remains central to her work. She is the founder and president of B&R Emergency Training and Response Corp, a nonprofit dedicated to disaster relief, preparedness, and specialized training for communities with limited access to these services in the U.S. and the Caribbean. She also serves as Medical Director for Seven Eyes Stones Ministries, coordinating medical clinics overseas in underserved areas.

As owner and president of Operational and Strategic Innovations, Dr. González leads a team of professionals focused on empowering healthcare teams, improving services, and making a nationwide impact. Energetic and compassionate, she is committed to advancing healthcare and enhancing the well-being of others, reflecting J. Oswald Sanders’ belief that “true greatness, true leadership, is found in giving yourself in service to others.”
