L. Anthony Cirillo, MD, FACEP is a partner within US Acute Care Solutions where he serves as the Director of Health Policy & Legislative Advocacy, a position he has held for the past 14 years. In this role Dr. Cirillo has represented US Acute Care Solutions in a variety of organizations and coalitions in the healthcare system reform arena. In addition to his work as Director of Health Policy, Tony works clinically in both Rhode Island and Connecticut and serves as the local emergency department medical director for the Pequot Emergency Department in Groton, CT.
Dr. Cirillo attended medical school at the University of Vermont, and after a transitional year at the George Washington University Hospital, completed his residency in emergency medicine at the UMASS Medical Center in Worcester, MA where he served as Chief Resident. Following residency, he served as clinical faculty at the Albany Medical Center emergency medicine residency program for three years before moving to Rhode Island. In Rhode Island, he served as the Chief of Emergency Medicine at the Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island. In addition to his emergency department hospital leadership, Dr. Cirillo oversaw the creation of the Center for Emergency Preparedness & Response at the Rhode Island Department of Health.
Dr. Cirillo has served in numerous health policy related leadership positions within ACEP. He has served on, and chaired, ACEP’s Membership, State Legislative & Regulatory Affairs, and Federal Government Affairs Committees. He serves on the as a trustee on the NEMPAC board, which is ACEP’s political action committee. Dr. Cirillo has served on ACEP’s Alternative Payment Model and Single Payer Task Forces and on the EDPMA/ACEP Joint Task Force focusing on the issue of out-of-network care. Dr. Cirillo is the 2018 Recipient of ACEP’s Colin C. Rorrie, Jr, PhD Award for Excellence in Health Policy. He is a Past President of the RI Chapter of ACEP and was elected to the ACEP National Board of Directors in October 2018.
