ACEP, OR-ACEP Join Oregon Workgroup to Prioritize Physician-Led Care

ACEP and OR-ACEP are part of a new stakeholder workgroup in Oregon led by Oregon House Majority Leader Rep. Bowman and focused on strengthening independent practice in the state.

ACEP and OR-ACEP were proud to represent emergency physicians with nearly 100 policymakers and healthcare leaders at the workgroup’s first meeting on June 22.

Dr. John Moorhead, past ACEP and OR-ACEP president, spoke on behalf of OR-ACEP, emphasizing the importance of banning non-compete contract clauses, which were scaled back by the ACEP-supported state law, SB 951, limiting corporate practice of medicine in Oregon.

"It is essential that medical decision-making remains at the bedside, where physicians can make timely, patient-centered decisions," said OR-ACEP President Patsy Chenpanas, MD, MS. "In emergency medicine, every moment matters, and preserving physicians' ability to navigate complex medical and community systems is critical to delivering the best possible emergency care."

ACEP advocacy is focused on creating a more sustainable reimbursement and practice environment for every emergency physician.

"ACEP is working to ensure that patients, policymakers and hospital leaders around the country recognize the critical importance of emergency physician-led care and medical decision-making,” said ACEP President L. Anthony Cirillo, MD, FACEP.

The workgroup is set to meet again on July 13.
