ACEP’s Geriatric Accreditation Shows Quality, Innovation, Impact

With older adults accounting for about one in five emergency department visits, ACEP’s Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation (GEDA) program is raising the bar for emergency care specialized for older adults.

Two new case studies show how accredited facilities are implementing evidence-based practices:

  • Advocate Health shows how standardized workflows and data dashboards implemented across 25 emergency departments reduced ED revisits. Read more.
  • Kaiser Permanente Southern California’s regional fall prevention initiative in 15 emergency departments achieved higher screening and documentation rates while reducing falls among older adults. Read more.

“These are two exemplar case studies of how the GEDA program catalyzes and sustains profoundly impactful care improvement programs for older adults across health systems. Both systems’ programs demonstrate how implementing GEDA care processes helps patients get better care in the ED,” said Kevin Biese, MD, MAT, FACEP, GEDA Chair.
