The definition of burnout is the state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion with an inability to recover from the stress. Recent literature shows that the specialty of emergency medicine has the highest burnout rate. As leaders during this time of healthcare change, we must create opportunities to improve our practices while increasing our and our team’s resiliency.
