ACEP ID:
The Bylaws Committee’s primary function is to ensure that the foundational documents of the College and the Chapters are up to date and compliant with current standards of organizational governance. The Bylaws Committee reviews the national ACEP Bylaws for areas that may be in need of revision. They also review proposed Bylaws resolutions to determine if there are conflicts with other portions of the College Bylaws, proposed Council Standing Rules, and proposed College Manual resolutions to determine if there are implications for the Bylaws if the resolutions are adopted. The Bylaws Committee also reviews each chapter’s bylaws every four years using an ongoing review cycle to confirm that the chapter’s bylaws are up to date and consistent with the College’s current bylaws, focusing on possible conflicts with College Bylaws, compliance with the form and content, and internal consistency and overall clarity.
Bylaws Committee participation is usually considered a recurring multiyear appointment since there is a multiyear learning curve to bylaws in general and to the Committee’s specific processes and functions.
