Need Help Getting a Spot for Oral Boards?

It’s no secret that COVID has upended the board certification process for many of us. Whether it was a delay in your 2020 written test score, or the cancelation of your 2020 oral exam, COVID comes with potentially delayed promotions, raises, sub-board opportunities, leaves of absence, and the added stress of knowing a big test is looming without knowing when it will happen.

For many of us, the announcement of the Spring oral boards being held virtually was a relief, but some of us were not fortunate enough to get a spot. Luckily, ABEM can help. They have prepared letters for board eligible doctors to explain the delay in board certification that may help with your license, raise or leaves of absence. If you need to test in the spring, they are also able to review these appeals on a case-by-case basis. Email them at abem@abem.org, call them at 517-332-4800 between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET Monday to Friday, or fill out their contact form.

ACEP's Young Physicians Section is here to help as well. If you’re running into a roadblock or want to discuss ways to make sure the board meets the needs of their diplomates, please reach out. Contact me or your YPS Delegate Nnenna Ejesieme, MD, with your ideas or problems so we can help.

Yours in advocacy,

Scott H Pasichow, MD, MPH
ACEP-YPS Alternate Councilor
