Laurel Barr, MD, FACEP
Chair-Elect
Community Health Physicians, Mid-Ohio Emergency Services
I humbly submit my candidacy for the position of Chair Elect of the Young Physician Section. I currently practice clinically in community medicine in the Columbus, Ohio area. I experienced changes practicing Emergency Medicine during the pandemic that caused me to seek ways to improve patient outcomes outside of bedside care. This search for ways to advocate for positive change in patient care and clinician well being catalyzed my advocacy efforts and involvement with ACEP. I completed the Leadership Development Academy through Ohio ACEP in 2023 and have since found a home advocating at a state and national level through the Young Physicians Section where I currently serve as Councilor. I have coauthored resolutions on customer satisfaction surveys and alarm fatigue and have provided testimony regarding reproductive rights and workplace violence. I am also highly involved in Ohio ACEP and currently serve on their board, government affairs, and EMS committees. I have been involved in educational initiatives including oral board review and helped author the personal finance chapter of Practice Essentials of EM. I have been highly involved in legislation initiatives for workplace violence and feel strongly that everyone should feel safe working in the Emergency Department. If you elect me as Chair Elect to YPS, I will do my best to represent you in hard conversations about the future of Emergency Medicine. I look forward to continuing to work closely with Dr. Udrea and ACEP staff to expand opportunities for involvement in ACEP and YPS, and to provide you the resources you need to practice Emergency Medicine without outside distractions, and to make important decisions in your careers and personal financial life.
