Amanda Irish, MD, MPH, MS
Alternate Councilor
Iowa Health Care
I am committed to serving the YPS with the knowledge and experience gained over my 5 previous years serving as an ACEP alternate/councilor and as former EMRA Speaker. My aim as alternate councilor is to ensure early career physician voices are heard and to foster communication within the greater EM community. I will work diligently and energetically with my colleagues to maintain an atmosphere of respect and openness to enable identification, discussion, and development of policy that supports the diverse needs of our physician members. Over the past year I have been actively engaged with the YPS section, working with the Chair-Elect and others, to draft a powerful resolution on the new ABEM oral board format and to energize and engage our membership for the future. Expanding on the current strengths of YPS, I will focus on addressing the many existential threats faced by our members (top of mind--scope of practice, worker’s rights, DEI, and many more), crafting additional resolutions to strengthen our role and enable us to continue providing essential care to those who rely on us. I have leadership and policy experience as a US Marine, graduate of EMRA’s leadership academy, EMRA Board Director, and serving member of several state ACEP chapters and medical societies. I have been privileged in these roles to develop and promote policy affecting fellow physicians and also to advocate on behalf of underrepresented populations. I am exceptionally well-organized, have an eye for detail, excel at managing multiple tasks, am passionate about actualizing others’ ideas, and consistently see the development of projects through to their conclusions. Given my experience and enthusiasm for this role, it would be my honor to serve as your YPS alternate councilor.
