Jody Crane

MD, MBA, FACEP

Dr. Crane currently serves as Chief Medical Officer for TeamHealth, supporting clinical quality, safety, risk, clinical operations, and performance improvement across all service lines. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Dr. Crane has led the company’s COVID-19 response. He also serves as an executive sponsor for company’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee and the company’s VirtualCare service line. In 2021, he was selected by Modern Healthcare as one of the 50 Most Influential Clinical Executives.
Dr. Crane is a board-certified emergency physician practicing in Richmond, Virginia. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and medical degree from Medical College of Virginia. He has held clinical and leadership roles at Mary Washington Healthcare, the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group, and Sheridan Healthcare. Prior to joining TeamHealth, through his company, X32Healthcare, he successfully led performance improvement initiatives on 6 continents. 
Dr. Crane is also an emergency medicine faculty member for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and served as an advisor for the National Institute for Health Research’s Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care in Northwest London from 2010 to 2018. He is also a faculty member of the American College of Emergency Physicians ED Directors’ Academy, where he was recognized by ACEP as the Speaker of the Year, Honorable Mention in 2016. Dr. Crane graduated from the Physician Executive MBA Program in 2004 at the University of Tennessee, where he remains on faculty teaching healthcare operations and leadership. In 2021, he was awarded the George Miller Jr. Award for Service in Teaching from UT’s Haslam College of Business.
