Nehal Naik, MD
Chair-Elect
DMS - Envision Physician Services
This is an exciting time for the Young Physicians Section, as new leadership opportunities create growth and greater impact. As chair-elect and chair, I want to find the tools Young Emergency Physicians need to optimize their careers, experiences with ACEP, and personal lives. My goal is to launch young leaders in EM to a higher stage so you can find greater satisfaction in your day-to-day practice. Before I launch into what I want to accomplish as chair, a little about me. I'm Nehal Naik, MD, an Emergency Physician in Las Vegas, home to the 2024 ACEP Scientific Assembly, where I'm excited to meet you all. I'm currently the Medical Director of Elite Medical Center and Director of Health Policy/Health Equity for the Valley Health System Emergency Medicine Residency. I serve on the ACEP EM Practice Committee and have previously served on the SAEM Board of Directors. I'm sure you can find more on my attached CV. Let's focus back on you, the YPS members. A young physician, whether in Community or Academic practice, has a plethora of options, but often little guidance. YPS can be your home of career development resources. Within ACEP, I would advocate for better representation of YPS members throughout all sections, committees, and decision-making bodies of ACEP. Closer to members' homes, YPS can help define what leadership opportunities may look like within your group, hospital, city/state medical authorities, and regional medical societies. We can bring in thought leaders to elucidate the path to positions such as medical director, hospital peer review chair, ACEP state chapter president, and more! Beyond career development, young emergency physicians are often at the forefront of innovation in healthcare. Let's get our YPS members closer to the source! I would partner with the AMA's Physician Innovation Network and other leaders in the health innovation space like HLTH Inc. These connections can engage members to innovate alongside other entrepreneurs, and will connect you to the newest tech. For example, YPS could help you find the best options for products within your workspace, such as AI-based scribes. Finally, our YPS has already done a great job creating resources for the First Year Out and life outside medicine, but it needs more! Many young physicians struggle to adjust to a rapidly changing financial situation, a turbulent personal life, and an overburdened health system, all while they are just establishing themselves as respected Emergency Physicians in their community. YPS can help. Our current resources, however, are dated, and I think it's time for a refresh. I would help lead YPS to partner with known experts in the field to provide more current and balanced information on managing your financial situation and navigating the changes in your home life. I hope as your next Chair-Elect of YPS, I can catapult you toward your career goals and lay the groundwork for your first decade as an Emergency Physician. Vote for Nehal Naik, MD for Chair-Elect!
