The world of emergency medicine is changing constantly, and today, it is already markedly different than when I started medical school. The job market no longer seems so certain, patient-staff violence is rising, and boarding is now a daily thing. To ensure the best outcomes for our patients, our specialty, and our community, we must advocate for ourselves, something that frequently gets lost among new graduates due to copious other demands on our attention. I would like to help other young physicians get what they need, whether that's communicating our specific issues to the ACEP Board/Council or creating resources to help navigate the mercurial world that we live in. As a chief resident, I would often illicit complaints from my fellow residents and compile them to send to our resident directors, APDs, and quality officers, who I then worked with to try to create change. Though our efforts were not always successful, I am determined to keep trying to ensure a safe and healthy practice environment for us all.
