From the Immediate Past Chair

Penelope Lema, MD FACEP

Dear Ultrasound Colleagues,

Happy New Year! It was wonderful to see many of you in Boston at the ACEP Scientific Assembly in October last year. It truly was a group effort to have a successful hybrid business meeting. I am grateful for each member of our team and all the speakers who contributed for the months prior to the meeting. I would like to personally thank Dr. Nova Panebianco, recent immediate past Chair, and Julie Rispoli for their countless hours of partnership, friendship and support throughout the year. Due to Dr. Panebianco’s year-long efforts, we were able to successfully update the ACEP Emergency Ultrasound Imaging Criteria Compendium with full ACEP Board of Directors approval.

Our section is in great hands as I pass the leadership baton onto my friend and block guru, Dr. Arun Nagdev. Congrats to Dr. Mike Gottlieb on his election as Chair-elect. I know he has great initiatives for the section during his leadership term and will continue to propel us forward.

As we begin a new year and reflect on the past, I am inspired by all the talent in our sub-specialty and the numerous resources our section was able to produce despite being intra-pandemic. Please check out my EngagED post from 11/4/2021 for the slides and resources for section members from the ACEP21 section business meeting. In the meantime, enjoy this month’s newsletter! Check out the Update on Ultrasound Disinfection by Drs. Nomura and Kumetz. Also, The Use of Ultrasound in Cardiac Arrest by Drs. Neasi and Kuttab is a great review on this topic.

Again, Happy 2022! I wish you health and happiness as we start the new year with yet another COVID surge.

Penny Lema
