About the Process

What to expect during the application process

Institutions seeking accreditation will be required to submit a completed online application along with required documentation and an application fee. Submitted applications will be reviewed for completeness by ACEP staff first, followed by a comprehensive evaluation by a team of ACEP-appointed physician reviewers.

Pre-Application

  • Step 1: Determine appropriate accreditation level that suits your institution.
  • Step 2: Prepare documents for online application.

Online Application

  • Step 3: Log in with your ACEP credentials. If you do not have credentials, you can easily create an account by setting up a username and password.
  • Step 4: Select the level of application you wish to apply for. Complete the application via the online application portal and submit.
  • Step 5: Pay the application fee.

Site Visit

ACEP will assign a Board of Governor reviewer for the site visit.

  • Level 1: Required phone conversation post-application submission, and mandatory in-person or virtual site visit.
  • Level 2: Discretionary phone conversation post-application submission, and discretionary virtual site visit.

Award

Once the reviewer completes the evaluation, all applications must be approved by the Board of Governors.

  • Level 1 applicants will be notified of the decision within 6 weeks after the site visit has been conducted.
  • Level 2 and 3 applicants will be notified of the decision within 10 to 12 weeks after the online application is submitted.

Once approved, hospitals will receive an accreditation certificate, an approval letter, digital and printed seals as well as a “How to Market your Accreditation” brochure.
