Members of the ACEP Toxicology Section,

As we continue into 2026, I would like to wish all members a productive and rewarding spring season. We have a lot of things going on behind the scenes to bring more value to you as a member of the section. The evolving landscape of substance-related exposures underscores the importance of education and exchange of knowledge within our specialty. Our section remains committed to bringing members the latest developments, clinical insights, and emerging issues in medical toxicology relevant to emergency physicians. We strive to provide meaningful content and highlight important work within our field to foster a community where members can connect and share expertise.

Recognizing Excellence

Please join me in congratulating Evan Schwarz, MD, FACMT, who was honored with the 2026 Outstanding Service to the College Award by the American College of Medical Toxicology (ACMT). This award reflects Dr. Schwartz’s longstanding commitment to leadership and service in our field.

We are proud to see members of the emergency medicine toxicology community recognized at the national level and look forward to further partnership with colleagues across organizations.

ACEP Scientific Assembly – Save the date!

Please mark your calendars for the Toxicology Section meeting at ACEP Scientific Assembly this fall (10/5/26 – 10/8/26). This year’s section meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 7th, 2026 from 10:30 am – 12: 30 pm. We encourage all members attending ACEP to join us. Important agenda items will be distributed closer to the meeting date.

ACMT Annual Scientific Meeting

We hope to see some of you at the ACMT Annual Scientific Meeting taking place in Boston, MA from March 20-22, 2026.

North American Congress of Clinical Toxicology

NACCT will be taking place in San Diego, California from October 21st-25th, 2026. Abstract submissions opened on February 1st and are due on May 4th, 2026. Submission instructions can be found at https://www.clintox.org/nacct. Early bird rates for registration end on September 4th, 2026.

Strengthening Collaboration Across Organizations

The section leadership is currently working on collaboration with the ACMT, the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology (AACT) and the Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association (EMRA). In doing so, we hope to expand educational opportunities, promote research collaboration, and advocate for a unified approach to emerging public health threats. We look forward to sharing more updates on these efforts in the coming months.

Opportunities for Involvement

Call for Education Committee Chair

The section is currently seeking a volunteer to serve as Chair of the Education Committee. The role is a great opportunity for members interested in developing educational content and helping coordinate resources to provide for our emergency medicine colleagues. Members interested in learning more or volunteering are encouraged to reach out to section leadership.

Call for Newsletter Content

We are also seeking contributions for future section newsletter updates. If you are interested in contributing or have an idea for a short piece, please contact the section leaders. Even brief submissions can help keep our community engaged and informed. Submission content can include:

  • Clinical updates or reviews
  • Journal club summaries
  • Toxicology “pearls” or clinical tips
  • Advocacy or legislative policy updates
  • Book reviews

The section continues to grow thanks to the contributions and enthusiasm of our members. I look forward to continuing to serve you as section chair. If you have content that you would like to contribute or have other suggestions or comments, please do not hesitate to reach out. We look forward to connecting with many of you at ACEP in Chicago this year!

Richard Chen, MD, FACEP, FAAEM
Chair, ACEP Toxicology Section
