Update on the 2020 Primer
Despite the many challenges of COVID-19 pandemic, dozens of academic emergency physicians have completed their chapters in the new 2020 primer, titled "Developing a Resident Research and Scholarly Activity Program in Emergency Medicine: A Primer." This book was funded by 2019-2020 Section grant funding from ACEP and is intended to be a supplement to the 2012 Primer, "Emergency Care Research: A Primer". The 2012 Primer on emergency care research (ECR) is a great reference for "how-to" conduct ECR, but additional guidance is needed for those who wish to facilitate resident ECR and, more generally, their scholarly activities. Resident-level scholarly activities represent a specific niche within ECR, with their own unique requirements and challenges. The target audience for this Primer will be EM residency leadership and EM research directors who wish to maximize the value of the scholarly activities of their EM residents. Almost all chapters have been submitted and the Section Editors (Chadd Kraus, Gentry Wilkerson, Gary Gaddis, and Chuck Cairns), Loren Rives, and I are finalizing the book in time for release at the ACEP Research Forum (October 2020). The final product will be published as a digital e-book online and will be made available on the ACEP website as an official ACEP publication. Thanks, everyone, for your support!
Please feel free to contact me with any questions regarding the project.
