About Us

Our Mission Statement

This section offers resources and a network for those physicians at or nearing clinical retirement to remain relevant to the specialty of emergency medicine. The members plan to help share their knowledge and personal experience with emergency physicians at earlier stages of their careers.

Vision Statement

  • The vision of this section is to unlock the expertise and experiences of senior emergency physicians and make this knowledge base available to earlier career colleagues.
  • Through section affinity groups, we will provide, upon request, insights learned through successes and failures that will allow the college, state chapters, and individuals to shorten the learning curve as they face old and new challenges.
  • Each section affinity group will develop individual approaches to provide help in a consultative fashion to advance professional and personal goals of emergency medicine.
  • At the college level, section members can help augment staff expertise as they work to advance ACEP’s agenda.
  • College committees, task forces, and other sections may benefit, if desired, from decades of experience and lessons learned through both failure and success.
  • State chapters may benefit from operational and political successes in their home state, as well as from other states that faced similar challenges and succeeded.
  • Emergency medicine is a difficult, challenging specialty, both physically and mentally. By nature of their longevity, the members of this section have learned techniques and tricks to remain engaged and dedicated and have continued to grow and thrive. The section will provide opportunities to share these stories and lessons through mentoring and teaching. This will allow emergency physicians to build on proven strategies for success.
  • As emergency physicians explore alternative fields for employment as side gigs or even exit strategies, section members can offer advice on what to do and what not to do, based on their personal journeys. Personal growth and community enrichment can also be shared via volunteerism.
  • While COVID has discouraged in-person meetings, it has dramatically improved virtual problem solving. The section will meet in person whenever possible and remotely as needed to ensure maximum participation by all.
