Chief Technology Officer


Technology Services

BASIC FUNCTION This key leader works to establish a digital roadmap, directs all aspects of technological development, and ensures successful deployment of enterprise-wide solutions to meet current and future technology needs. The CTO directs the College’s Technology Services staff and resources and works closely with ACEP leaders and staff as a strategic technical advisor and partner.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. In conjunction with the senior management team and College leaders, develop a vision for the College that leverages technology to create strategic advantages.

  2. Work with other departments to assess, develop, and implement Technology Services strategies as well as to use technology and/or implement process changes to improve their efficiency.

  3. Direct the design, development and customization of web-based solutions, data management, internal systems, and custom application development to improve customer experience.

  4. Provide strategic and day-to-day leadership for the Technology Services department as well as hands-on problem analysis and resolution, network engineering, hardware configuration, applications management, and end-user support.

  5. Maintain and improve the technology infrastructure. Forecast costs, equipment and staffing needs for projects and programs as required. Direct technology consultants and contractors as needed.

  6. Maintain a positive work atmosphere that fosters collaboration, teamwork, and technical expertise.  Ensure customers are provided professional, courteous, and timely support and service.

  7. Develop and control Technology Services operational and capital budgets.

  8. Direct and maintain strategies for system and data security and integrity as well as a disaster recovery plan for College technology. Oversee the access and entitlements of all technology users.

  9. Design and implement department policies and procedures including operational standards, policies, and procedures. Design and implement technology, security, and compliance policies for the College. Stay current with new technologies, trends, and related practices in the industry; determine when new technology is needed to ensure effectiveness and compliance.

  10. Ensure the delivery of technology training to College staff as needed

  11. Provide technology consultation and professional support to committees, sections, and task forces as assigned.

  12. Oversee the look and feel, navigation and messaging of ACEP’s Web site and other electronic communications technology. Work directly with staff in all departments, including Technology Services, in the ongoing management of site content, customer queries, file structures, design, graphics, and branding.

  13. Implement new web content and features to maintain the site’s freshness; offer interesting material to attract new and repeat users to increase the length of the average visit to the site.

  14. Review reports and analysis from the search engine and web statistics to strengthen member value and increase ROI for members.

  15. Track Web site visitor and other site activities; provide regular tracking reports, summaries, and recommendations to ACEP departments.

  16. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience
  2. 15 years’ experience in Technology and 10 years’ experience managing multiple aspects of IT including web development, data management, system implementation, and project management.
  3. Extensive experience with software development lifecycle (SDLC), product development and project management methodologies.
