Senior Manager, Quality Improvement




Plans, directs, and evaluates the activities and staff by developing, recommending, and implementing goals, objectives, budgets, structures, and operational procedures for the Quality Improvement department within Quality Line of Business. Oversees development and implementation of comprehensive quality initiatives, data, and quality improvement programs to achieve the strategic objectives of ACEP and to elevate department objectives to execute and achieve assigned goals and deliverables. Develops and maintains the comprehensive business plans, budgets, project work plan; oversees quality control; builds partnerships across healthcare organizations and seeks new opportunities. 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provides project management and oversight to ensure timely completion of project objectives and deliverables, including developing project plans, communicating with key stakeholders, and driving the execution of diverse projects while coordinating the efforts of project staff members and third-party contractors or consultants.

  2. Monitors progress of multiple projects, collaborates with funding agencies, and works with department staff and physician leaders to develop appropriate reports and deliverables for funded projects to assure timely and efficient completion of projects.

  3. Manages and facilitates workgroups, task forces, committee and section outreach and related responsibilities to maximize interaction with physician leadership.

  4. Manages and oversees all aspects of quality improvement programs, including E-QUAL, ACGME PDPQ ECHO, ABEM MOC Part IV, Peer, and EM-CERT, and The Joint Commission OPPE and FPPE programs.

  5. Oversees the annual launch of the E-QUAL Network portal with IT and the implementation of E-QUAL projects, such as, Opioid, Stroke, Geriatrics, Atrial Fibrillation, COVID-19, and other future projects.

  6. Serves as a liaison between ACEP, CMS, ABEM, ACGME, The Joint Commission, and other funding agencies in conjunction with AED of Quality, Director of CEDR, and AED of Public Affairs.

  7. Interfaces and maintains positive working relationship with ACEP staff, members, consultants, funders, and contractors to gather and assimilate data for reports and reviews of deliverables, ensuring properly detailed records are maintained.

  8. Provides support for funded projects including drafting, editing, and proofreading reports and correspondence; creates, develops, and maintains project databases and spreadsheets; and processes invoices and requests for payment.

  9. Prepares and reviews Quality Improvement plans and deliverables for funders or other grant stakeholders and updates it throughout the year based on reviews, recommendations, and user experiences.

  10. Provides oversight on Quality Improvement projects, including reporting, publications, presentations, and customer support.

  11. Manages research and special projects related to quality improvement.

  12. Researches and identifies opportunities for funding support of ACEP Quality Improvement Programs with a focus to grow the programs through grant applications, awareness, and outreach.

  13. Works with other ACEP departments (specifically Educational Meetings, IT, Finance and Grants) to prepare and submit the necessary documentation required for funding opportunities, such as, grants, task orders, IDIQ, and BPAs.

  14. Manages meeting planning and logistics for on-site and out-of-town meetings involving representatives of ACEP, other stakeholder organizations and government agencies.

  15. Creates presentations, web content, and support booth and virtual participation for meetings, conferences and webinars. Effectively utilizes ACEP’s existing assets and capabilities in program building and dissemination.

  16. Develops, reviews and monitors department budgets, subcontract awards, and agreements. Makes recommendations regarding needed actions. Manages vendor relationships, deliverables, compliance, and invoices.

  17. Attends business and educational meetings as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Master’s degree or equivalent related experience.

  2. Minimum of five years project management, people management, grants management, or contracts management experience.

  3. Experience managing multiple priorities.

  4. Project management software experience such as Asana or Microsoft Project.

  5. Certified Project Management Professional.

Other Desired Qualifications

  1. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  2. Experience with a medical society, non-profit or association.

  3. Coursework in health policy, health administration, health services, public health, public administration, public policy or a related field preferred.

  4. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and schedules.
