Senior Director, Content Strategy

BASIC FUNCTION

Leads content strategy and centralization across all owned platforms and channels, ensuring alignment with ACEP’s brand's voice and mission. Identifies content gaps, innovates new content solutions based on direct customer feedback and search analytics, and leverages new technology to enhance content findability and accessibility

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Designs and executes strategies for pulling together ACEP’s disparate content from across platforms - including ACEP websites, partner websites, learning management systems, video sites, and other digital content repositories - to centralize searchability and accessibility for members and customers. Uses content to drive behavior, including lead capture and access levels for public, logged in, member only, and paid offerings.

  2. Establishes best practices for the entire content lifecycle, including format repurposing and quality assurance. Forms and leads a cross-functional team of content owners across the College. Establishes governance practices to categorize, review, refresh, and sunset content as well as to identify and prioritize content gaps for follow up by staff and volunteers who are responsible for content creation. Works with staff liaisons to sections and committees to communicate content needs and identify authors and appropriate formats.

  3. Creates systems to dynamically and consistently identify and serve up offerings related to key topics across all ACEP channels, including web, public/member documents, events, digital publications, online courses, podcasts, recorded videos, etc. Provides evergreen content related to timely topics to team members to help improve member recognition of ACEP’s breadth and depth of expertise, resources and benefits.

  4. Monitors and reports on the effectiveness of content marketing efforts, adjusting strategies as needed to maximize engagement and ROI, including the management of a UTM dashboard to track conversions and the development of a strategy for the use of new tools and channels.

  5. Collaborates with the IT department on a content strategy for the ACEP member app using data to drive decision on priorities of new developments, features and integrations. Takes a “create once, use often” approach to ensure that content is automatically updated across platforms and the app rather than being managed in multiple places.

  6. Works with web team to improve navigation and searchability for users of the acep.org and emergencyphysicians.org websites. Identifies content gaps and makes recommendations to senior management and education teams regarding areas for future content development. Continues to work with the IT department on ways to improve the integration of the FUSE search tool, or another approach to multi-faceted search.

  7. Works cross-functionally across the team and the College to improve, upgrade or replace ACEP systems to improve accessibility and ease of use for end users:

    1. Website / CMS and ACEP App.

    2. Integrated search and AI chatbot.

    3. Digital asset management, including print, digital and video content.

  8. Centralizes, tags and maintains print and digital assets for easy access by ACEP staff and leaders as they address key audiences.

  9. Works proactively with ACEP Marketing and PR teams on priority initiatives - including advocacy campaigns, member and public promotions, and combatting misinformation - all to improve ACEP’s reputation with members, emergency physicians and the public.

  10. Learns detail and nuance of key College strategic priorities and assists with writing or repurposing content for website, newsletters, social media, presentations, or other channels as requested.

  11. Manages external vendors to ensure successful delivery of outsourced projects as appropriate.

  12. Stays up to date with the latest developments in the communications field, including channels, technology and strategy, using data to drive decisions on where to invest time and resources to make the biggest impact.

  13. Provides advice and guidance to ACEP senior staff, volunteer leaders, and chapters regarding new advances and best practices in communications.

  14. Provides professional support to committees, sections, and task forces as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field.

  2. Minimum of 7 years’ experience in content strategy, content management, or a related field, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

  3. Proven track record of developing successful content strategies across multiple platforms.

  4. Strong understanding of SEO, content categorization and structure, content development, distribution, and measurement.

  5. Experience with content management systems (CMS) and asset management technologies used to support content lifecycle (creation, review, publication, and retirement).

  6. Excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.

  7. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

  8. Knowledge of utilizing AI tools to improve effectiveness and efficiency while maintaining brand voice.

Other Desired Qualifications

  1. Familiarity with healthcare/emergency medicine issues.

  2. Proven track record of innovation, problem-solving and process improvement.

  3. Previous experience in a non-profit organization.

  4. Master’s degree in communications or digital marketing preferred.
