BASIC FUNCTION

Helps to manage multiple EMRA publications in cooperation with internal teams, outside vendors and association members; develops new and repurposes existing content for print, email, and online distribution.  Curates, develops, and repurposes content for distribution.  Assists EMRA Executive Director and other EMRA staff in all phases of EMRA management.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Supports the development, design, production, and distribution of EMRA’s clinical and professional resources, including:
    • EM Resident magazine

    • Bedside guides

    • Pocket reference cards

    • Professional development books

    • Website content

    • App content

    • Podcast content

    • Other content (video, audio, etc.)

  2. Duties range from copy editing (per EMRA style) to reference-checking and formatting (per AMA style) to working closely with authors to shepherd publications through appropriate production workflows on-time and on-budget.
  3. Assists with posting EM Resident magazine articles online, ensuring that content is accurately transferred, is SEO-optimized, and is user-friendly. Monitors member feedback.  Suggests direction on advertising on digital platform. 
  4. Supports the Editorial Committee as needed.
  5. For all assigned publications, develops project plans and budgets, solicits content, provides copy-editing, and manages the production process. 
  6. Using Amazon and ACEP Bookstore data, creates and executes campaigns to increase publication sales from existing customers.
  7. Working with EMRA leaders, manages the EMRA•Cast podcast programming including volunteer podcaster management, facilitates interviews with EMRA authors and leaders in emergency medicine, and supports the resources needed for the program.
  8. Curates and/or creates new and relevant content for the EMRA website, as assigned.
  9. Supports the production of electronic publications, which may include HTML content, audiobooks, videos, and podcasts, among others.
  10. Maintains review schedule for EMRA publication and provides project management for subsequent editions of existing publications as assigned.
  11. Supports promotional copy for EMRA sales/recruiting collateral materials as assigned, which may include updating copy, layout, and production.
  12. Drafts and/or edits other written communications (e.g., reports, correspondence, guidelines) as assigned.
  13. Supports EMRA committees as assigned in the role of staff liaison.
  14. Responds to member inquiries and requests for information.
  15. Attends business and educational meetings as assigned.
  16. Collaborates with EMRA Marketing and Special Events Manager and Membership and Operations Coordinator on projects of mutual interest to ensure efficiency within the department.
  17. Coordinates and collaborates with other ACEP staff on projects of mutual interest to ensure efficiency within the College.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or a related field.
  2. Five years’ related experience including working with writers, graphic designers, freelance personnel and printers; experience with digital publications and applications; word processing (Windows environment) and a variety of software programs such as desktop publishing, graphics programs, and databases.
  3. Proficiency with web content management systems, Microsoft products, and databases and a variety of software programs such as desktop publishing; graphics programs and social media applications.
  4. Project management experience and ability to meet deadlines.
  5. Communicating effectively with a high level of accuracy.
  6. Occasional travel throughout the year.
  7. Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends.

  11. Experience and knowledge in emergency medicine, healthcare and /or organized medicine
  12. Ability to work independently
  13. Professional attitude and work ethic
