BASIC FUNCTION

Assists the General Counsel with legal affairs of the College

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide contract drafting, review and approval, as assigned.

  2. Provide review, approval, documentation, and coordination of copyright/trademark matters.

  3. Coordinate organization of legal matters, documentation and systems as assigned.

  4. Provide internal leadership in litigation, legislative/regulatory, policy development and implementation, corporate governance, ethics complaints and other matters as directed by the General Counsel.

  5. Create and present internal legal training to ACEP employees.

  6. Serve as staff liaison to the By laws Committee.

  7. Acts as direct supervisor to Legal Assistant.

  8. Attend business and educational meetings as assigned.

  9. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

All ACEP departments

External Contacts:

ACEP members, ACEP Board of Directors and Council Officers, past ACEP leaders, chapter executives and lobbyists, committee and section chairs and members; executives, leaders and legal staff with vendors, regulatory agencies, and other outside entities and associations

Required Education and Experience

  1. Doctor of Jurisprudence and licensed to practice law in the State of Texas.

  2. Ten years of legal experience, including contract drafting and corporate governance.

  3. Attention to detail; written and oral communication skills; handling client/member requests and issues.

  4. Organizing and coordinating multiple projects simultaneously without close supervision.

Other Desired Qualifications

  1. Experience with contract law, intellectual property matters, association law, nonprofit law, litigation, legislative/regulatory issues, risk management, and employment law.

  2. Ability to work well with others and handle challenges in a positive manner.

  3. Experience supervising outside counsel and in dealing with legal counsel and senior management of outside entities.

  4. Experience supervising legal department staff.
