| BASIC FUNCTION |
The Associate Executive Director for Strategic Communications & Marketing is a key executive leadership role responsible for driving ACEP's strategic initiatives in external communications, marketing, digital engagement, and brand management. This position oversees and integrates all aspects of ACEP's communications and marketing efforts to enhance brand awareness, advance the specialty of emergency medicine, promote ACEP's products and services, and support the organization's mission and vision |
Strategic Leadership:
Collaborate with the CEO and other senior executives to develop and implement organization-wide communications and marketing strategies that advance the specialty of emergency medicine and advance healthcare through quality improvement.
Lead the development and execution of comprehensive strategies for brand awareness, thought leadership, and product/service promotion in collaboration with member leaders and staff.
Leverage ACEP's market research resources to reveal insights and guide development of relevant communications products.
Drive innovation in digital communications, content creation, and marketing methodologies, including oversight of the content strategy specific to ACEP’s website and social media channels.
Organizational Management:
Oversee communications and marketing staff and contractors.
Provide leadership and direction to senior staff in communications, marketing, and digital engagement areas.
Ensure effective coordination and alignment of communications and marketing activities across the organization.
Work with communications and marketing leads in ACEP chapters and affiliated groups to share information and resources in order to expand ACEP’s reach and promote the specialty with emergency medicine partners globally.
Content Strategy and Development:
Develop and implement strategies for creating engaging, multichannel content including podcasts, short videos, thought leadership pieces, and knowledge products.
Oversee the creation and distribution of content that enhances engagement and provides value to members and external audiences.
Coordinate content strategy across all platforms and publications.
Marketing and Branding:
Lead marketing efforts for ACEP membership, emergency medicine specialty advancement, and products/services for emergency physicians and healthcare professionals.
Develop and maintain a strong, consistent brand identity across all platforms and communications.
Drive integrated marketing campaigns that support organizational goals.
Digital Engagement and Technology:
Oversee the management and development of content strategy for ACEP's website and mobile applications, the technology infrastructure is managed though the Chief Information Officer (CIO).
Drive the organization's digital content strategy and online presence.
Coordinate with publishing and educational staff on digital initiatives for ACEP publications and learning platforms.
Public Relations and Crisis Communications:
Develop and implement public relations strategies to enhance ACEP's reputation and visibility.
Lead crisis communications planning and execution.
Support the CEO and elected leaders who serve as official spokespeople for the organization.
Manage media relations and external communications.
Training and Development:
Oversee training programs for staff and members in social media, crisis communications, public relations, and leadership communications.
Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement in communications skills including storytelling, mission-driven communications, and audience development.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Serve as a key liaison with ACEP leadership, Councils, committees, and member groups on communications matters.
Represent ACEP at industry events and in discussions with external partners and media.
Cultivate relationships with media outlets, industry partners, and other relevant organizations.
Financial Management:
Develop and manage budgets for all areas of responsibility.
Identify opportunities for revenue growth and cost efficiencies in communications and marketing efforts.
Ensure ROI measurement and optimization of marketing investments.
Performance Management:
Establish and monitor key performance indicators for all communications and marketing initiatives.
Ensure continuous improvement in engagement metrics, brand awareness, and marketing effectiveness.

15+ years of progressive leadership experience in communications and marketing, preferably in association, healthcare, or professional organization environments.
Expert knowledge of and experience with strategic communications, public relations, and integrated marketing content development and execution for national organizations.
Proven track record in developing and implementing strategic communications and marketing initiatives that drive engagement and organizational growth.
Strong understanding of journalism, digital communications, content strategy, and emerging media platforms with ability to anticipate and foresee new developments and trends.
Experience in overseeing large-scale communications and marketing campaigns and projects.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including media.
Strong business acumen and financial management skills.
Visionary thinker with the ability to drive innovation and change in communications and marketing practices.
Experience with crisis communications and reputation management.
