BASIC FUNCTION

The Associate Executive Director for Membership Engagement is a key executive leadership role responsible for driving ACEP's strategic initiatives in member engagement, retention, and value creation. This position oversees and integrates all aspects of ACEP's efforts to enhance member satisfaction, advance the specialty of emergency medicine, and support the organization's mission and vision through meaningful member experiences and relationships

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Leadership:

    1. Collaborate with the CEO and other senior executives to develop and implement organization-wide membership engagement strategies that advance the specialty of emergency medicine.

    2. Lead the development and execution of comprehensive strategies for member engagement, retention, and value proposition enhancement in collaboration with member leaders and staff.

    3. Leverage ACEP's market research resources to reveal insights and guide development of relevant member services and programs.

    4. Drive innovation in member engagement methodologies, member experience design, and value delivery systems.

  2. Organizational Management:

    1. Oversee membership engagement staff and contractors across all locations.

    2. Provide leadership and direction to senior staff in member engagement, member relations, and member services areas.

    3. Ensure effective coordination and alignment of membership activities across the organization.

    4. Work with membership leads in ACEP chapters and affiliated groups to share information and resources in order to expand ACEP's reach and promote member engagement with emergency medicine partners globally.

  3. Member Experience Strategy and Development:

    1. Develop and implement strategies for creating engaging, multichannel member experiences including programs, services, benefits, and touchpoints.

    2. Oversee the creation and distribution of member value propositions that enhance engagement and provide measurable value to members and external audiences.

    3. Coordinate member experience strategy across all platforms and member touchpoints.

  4. Member Retention and Recruitment:

    1. Lead membership recruitment efforts for ACEP, emergency medicine specialty advancement, and member engagement programs.

    2. Develop and maintain a strong, consistent member value propositions across all member segments and career stages.

    3. Drive integrated membership campaigns that support organizational growth and member satisfaction goals.

  5. Member Relations and Community Building:

    1. Oversee member relations programs including chapter relations, section engagement, and component organization coordination.

    2. Foster strong relationships between ACEP and its diverse membership communities.

    3. Coordinate member engagement initiatives across educational, clinical, and professional development areas.

  6. Member Services and Support:

    1. Lead member services operations including member care, billing support, and member assistance programs.

    2. Develop and implement member support strategies to enhance member satisfaction and resolve member concerns.

    3. Support member-focused training and development programs.

  7. Training and Development:

    1. Oversee training programs for staff and members in member engagement, community building, and member leadership development.

    2. Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement in member engagement skills including relationship building, member-driven communications, and community development.

  8. Stakeholder Engagement:

    1. Serve as a key liaison with ACEP leadership, Councils, committees, and member groups on membership matters.

    2. Represent ACEP at industry events and in discussions with member groups and potential members.

    3. Cultivate relationships with chapter leaders, section chairs, and other member organization leaders.

  9. Financial Management:

    1. Develop and manage budgets for all areas of responsibility.

    2. Identify opportunities for revenue growth and cost efficiencies in membership and member engagement efforts.

    3. Ensure ROI measurement and optimization of membership investments.

  10. Performance Management:

    1. Establish and monitor key performance indicators for all membership and member engagement initiatives.

    2. Ensure continuous improvement in engagement metrics, member satisfaction, and membership effectiveness.

Required Education and Experience

  1. 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in membership engagement and member services, preferably in association, healthcare, or professional organization environments.

  2. Expert knowledge of and experience with membership development, member retention strategies, and member experience design for national organizations.

  3. Proven track record in developing and implementing strategic membership initiatives that drive engagement and organizational growth.

  4. Strong understanding of member communications, member journey mapping, and emerging member engagement platforms with ability to anticipate and foresee new developments and trends.

  5. Experience in overseeing large-scale membership campaigns and member experience programs.

  6. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  7. Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse member stakeholders.

  8. Strong business acumen and financial management skills.

  9. Visionary thinker with the ability to drive innovation and change in membership engagement practices.

  10. Experience with member relationship management systems and member analytics.

  11. Moderate travel (approximately 20-25%) for meetings, conferences, media events, and stakeholder engagement activities.
