BASIC FUNCTION

Provide project management, marketing leadership and team infrastructure strategy across all functional areas of the Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association (EMRA.) Drive marketing, special events, branding, and public relations activities to support EMRA’s success. Track and motivate adherence to required timelines and schedules, including event deliverables, maintain schedules for internal and external media (website, social media, etc.); coordinate outbound communications to members and other stakeholders; assist EMRA Executive Director and all EMRA staff in membership and special project marketing to internal and external audiences.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Develop, plan and execute marketing, communications, branding and public relations plans for all aspects of EMRA programs (not including EM Resident magazine), events, meetings and membership, including brand positioning and support, house ads, development and enforcement of graphic standards and promotions of EMRA to its audiences and stakeholders.

  2. Create the strategy and executes social media campaigns to extend EMRA social media brand and presence. This includes a multi-channel strategy to promote member value and engagement, and to increase membership, member, and sponsor recognition.  Coordinate with ACEP to complement messaging about meetings, products, and educational opportunities as appropriate. 

  3. Using social media segmentation, develop and execute a strategy to reach EMRA member segments with appropriate and timely messages.

  4. Define and analyze metrics that inform the success of social media strategies.  Based on these regularly gathered metrics, adjust social media strategies to increase user engagement.  

  5. Produce video and photography projects including the pre-production work, shooting, and editing to support the social media and website strategy.

  6. Execute email marketing campaigns to support EMRA products, activities, and organizational priorities. Track key performance metrics of campaign effectiveness.

  7. Serve as a content author on the EMRA website, including testimonials and the ability to use the content management system. Ensure the EMRA website aligns with the strategic communication goals and implement strategies to keep content fresh and dynamic.

  8. Provide digital graphic art production for the website and seek ways to integrate multimedia content, including still images, animation, audio, and video.

  9. Execute EMRA Human Trafficking Awareness campaign, Health Policy Journal Club, Voter Registration and other campaigns and programs as directed.

  10. Execute stakeholder campaigns such as EMRA Chit Chat to Program Coordinators.

  11. Facilitate and manage quarterly Marketing Summits with the EMRA team to drive our multi-channel marketing strategy.

  12. Manage vendors that supply graphic design, printing, photography, marketing, and promotional services to the organization, except for the magazine and clinical resources. Additionally, manage contracted vendors to provide fulfillment and design services.

  13. Manage EMRA special events/campaign such as the EMRA Quiz Shows, SIMWars, EMRA 20 in 6 Resident Lecture Series, Awards Programs, EM Day of Service, and others as assigned.  Create and execute a marketing plan for each event/campaign to recruit participants, audience members and member engagement.  Refresh each campaign regularly to maintain excitement for each event.

  14. Manage the emCareers.org campaign to increase job seeker traffic and revenue to the Association.

  15. In collaboration with the Managing Editor, develop, execute, and manage EMRA’s marketing efforts to external audiences such as other medical specialties and stakeholders.

  16. Manage graphic design vendors to create new member kits components and graphics to support EMRA special events and campaigns.  Ensure designs meet EMRA brand standards, vendors deliver product within the required timeframe and within budget.

  17. In collaboration with other staff, manage creation of EMRA member kits to residency programs, medical schools, emergency medicine interest groups, individuals, and other groups. Ensure creative design and kit delivery adheres to EMRA branding standards.  Manage vendors to ensure kits are distributed in a timely manner and within budget.

  18. Manage affinity partner relationships including facilitating annual business reviews and using this data to improve member benefit activation.  Create and implement marketing strategies for affinity partners.

  19. Serve as staff liaison to advocacy campaigns spearheaded by partner organizations, such as #GetUsPPE, VotER, and Stop the Stigma.

  20. Serve as staff liaison to grant-funded collaborations with ACEP, such as the Diversity & Inclusion Mentorship Initiative, and CDC Frontline Grant.

  21. Serve as staff liaison to the EMRA Committees as assigned by providing orientation and advice to Chair and members; coordinating and supporting efficient committee meetings and activities; preparing appropriate background information and tracking committee actions; identifying potential problems; advising Executive Director and monitoring committee compliance with EMRA policies and procedures. 

  22. Create EMRA’s annual End-of-Year report to inform membership of our successes and vision.

  23. Continually monitors emergency medicine, general healthcare topics, workforce issues, medical education (including FOAMed), and residency training, academic teaching environments and other emergency medicine organizations in order to stay up to date on issues of interest to the membership and appropriately respond to inquiries.

  24. Lead production of materials for meetings, including signage, presentation templates, promotional products, and other collateral; and other activities as assigned.

  25. Create and maintain PowerPoint slide templates and decks to strengthen EMRA’s brand.

  26. Participate in EMRA Board Meeting planning, CORD Annual Meeting and ACEP Scientific Assembly preparations and travel to meetings as necessary.  Provide assistance for member participation in state/local/national events as assigned.

  27. With the EMRA Executive Director, prepare and monitor budgets, as assigned.

  28. Coordinate and collaborate with other EMRA staff members on projects to ensure efficiency within the department.

  29. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations or a related field, or equivalent experience

  2. Five years of related work experience including experience in marketing and public relations, special events, advertising, and promotions

  3. Established proficiency with Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, desktop publishing, graphics, databases, survey creation tools, and content management systems; experience with various web browser technologies; working knowledge of the Internet and its capabilities and virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom and Teams

  4. Intermediate to Advanced understanding of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn)

  5. Basic to Intermediate design skills using Canva or the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop)

  6. Creativity, attention to detail, and writing skills are all key to the position

  7. Experience with data management systems such as Microsoft CRM or others

  8. Working knowledge of HTML and CSS

  9. Experience with email marketing software such as Mailchimp and ClickDimensions

  10. Communicating effectively with a high level of accuracy

  11. Ability to travel as required.  Anticipate 3 times per year from 2 to 8 days duration.

  12. Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends
