Management Services


Serves as the chief staff officer, responsible to the board of directors, for the effective management of the association according to its missions, bylaws, goals, objectives, budgets, strategic plans, and policies of the organization. Plans, directs, evaluates, and provides oversight of CORD’s business operations, events, products, and services including but not limited to meetings, events, member benefit partnerships, web sites, social media platforms, mobile applications, advertising sales, and printed and web-based newsletters.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Plans, directs, and evaluates operations of the Board of Directors, including bylaws and bylaw amendments, policy review, strategic planning, orientation programs, related materials, agenda development and minutes.

  2. In conjunction with the CORD President, plans and develops the CORD annual work plans to fulfill the objectives of the strategic plan.

  3. In conjunction with the Treasurer, implements, evaluates, and provides oversight of CORD annual budgets. Reviews and analyzes monthly financial statements of CORD and report to the Board of Directors any significant variances or any areas of concern.

  4. Provides direction and supervision for the activities of assigned staff to achieve goals outlined in the strategic plan and as assigned by the Board of Directors. Nurtures the well-being and professional development of staff in the performance of their responsibilities.

  5. Develops, evaluates, and provides oversight of CORD’s annual educational programs as well as programs held throughout the year, including the annual Academic Assembly meeting, board retreats, strategic planning, regional meetings, and others as needed.

  6. Gathers required documentation and prepares application for ACCME and AOA accreditation for CORD Academic Assembly.

  7. Develops and implements the CORD activities at ACEP’s Scientific Assembly and other industry events, including board meetings, reception(s), education, CPC competition, committee meetings, networking, and social programming.

  8. Assumes responsibility for the navigation, user experience, functionality, and integration of CORD’s technology applications such as the CORD association management system, CORD primary and secondary websites, and learning management solutions, focusing on information architecture, design, user interface, content management and security. Monitors relevant technology solutions and applications.

  9. Plans, directs, and evaluates CORD’s annual membership renewal campaign.

  10. Secures, implements, evaluates, and provides oversight of CORD benefits and services directly impacting members.

  11. Implements, evaluates, and provides oversight of CORD strategic plan.

  12. Develops, implements, and evaluates funding campaigns for CORD and CORD Cares Foundation as allowed by the Board of Directors.

  13. Provides oversight and support to CORD committees, communities of practice, and task force groups. Updates and ensures accurate information with respect to the membership, leadership, and BOD liaisons to these groups.

  14. Solicits, analyzes, obtains legal review of and administer contracts with publishing companies, freelancers, designers, developers, website specialists, member benefit providers and other professionals and corporations. Maintains the current database of contracts and agreements.

  15. Develops and recommends pricing guidelines for CORD dues, products, and services.

  16. Directs the development and production of CORD’s newsletter and annual program to ensure quality publications that are delivered according to planned budget and schedule.

  17. Directs the development and production of CORD’s abstract supplement, working directly with the editors and leaders on production schedules, peer review, and final review of supplement.

  18. Selects and supervises vendors as needed to produce any CORD publications, promotional materials, and printed and electronic information.

  19. Oversees the CORD Job Board operations including marketing strategies, budget oversight and contract adherence.

  20. Appropriately responds to CORD member queries and complaints in a timely manner.

  21. Provides direction and supervision for the activities of assigned staff to achieve goals outlined in the strategic plan and as assigned by the Board of Directors. Nurtures the well-being and professional development of staff in the performance of their responsibilities.

  22. Ensures performance of CORD/ACEP Shared Services Agreement. Works collaboratively with ACEP staff providing support services for the fulfillment of association management services support.

  23. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or the Board of Directors.

  24. Attends organizational, business, and educational meetings as assigned.

  25. Facilitates meetings and communication with liaisons from external organizations (as listed below).

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree in management, education, communications, health care or related field or equivalent related experience

  2. Minimum of five years’ experience in a nonprofit professional or trade organization that includes management of multiple, simultaneous projects; budgeting; contract negotiation and management; oversight of publications development and production; oversight of Web site development and maintenance; working with volunteer leaders.

  3. Demonstrated experience developing and implementing organization-wide educational, technological, and digital strategies aligned with organizational mission and within expected timeline and budget.

  4. Strong technology acumen, especially with association management systems and content management systems.

  5. Ability to anticipate, identify, analyze, and capitalize on growth opportunities

  6. Ability to multi-task in a fast paced and innovative environment, in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team.

  7. Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills

  8. Supervisory experience

Other Desired Qualifications 

  1. Certified Association Executive preferred

  2. Meeting and event management experience

  3. Experience in business development

  4. Self-starter, able to make independent decisions
