BASIC FUNCTION

Under minimal supervision, develop data platforms, manage data standards, and perform analyses, including statistical model development and reporting of quality metrics, trends, and benchmarks for research platform, and dashboards related to federal grant. Periodic analyses will support regular research reports, position paper slide sets, talking points, and summaries for internal and external audiences on key issues related to emergency care. Develops technology and strategy in implementation of tools and products supporting the analysis of very large, complex data sets and workflows. Creates and implements standard processes used in data analysis projects that ensures accurate, repeatable work products.

 This position is funded by a one-year grant from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. In conjunction with ACEP staff, ACEP committee and physician leaders, develop and implement activities related to data standards, data quality, data interoperability, data query, data analysis, and survey administration.

  2. Generates statistical data to support the generation of position papers, research reports, slide sets, talking points, and summaries of data for internal and external audiences on key issues for emergency care.

  3. Conduct qualitative analysis as needed. Gather data through surveys, individual interviews, and focus groups and prepare appropriate reports summarizing the same.

  4. Maintains knowledge of current statistical and predictive models most applicable to healthcare and emergency medicine.

  5. Manage ACEP survey network, Emergency Medicine Practice Research Network (EMPRN), coordinating survey development and analyzing data.

  6. Track journals, newsletters, websites, and other sources of information on a regular basis.

  7. Review, analyze, and summarize data for discussion.

  8. Lead development and strategy for data-related grant projects, contribute to reports, coordinate with funding agencies, and work with department staff and physician leaders to meet grant deliverables.

  9. Maintain a system for tracking data related issues and deadlines that impact the grant project and provide regular status updates to relevant staff.

  10. Coordinate with funding agencies and grant project partners, as needed, and work with department staff and physician leaders to develop deliverables for funded projects.

  11. Coordinates with grant Project Director, Managers, and other staff to provide administrative management and continued outreach and engagement for stakeholders involved in grant.

  12. Contributes to, and participates in, webinars, trainings, and other related activities to maximize interaction with physician leadership.

  13. Establishes, maintains, and updates systems for communication among staff to facilitate the efficient flow of information relating to projects, activities, and objectives, including development and distribution of weekly, monthly, and ad-hoc reports.

  14. Support relevant committees, sections, and task forces as assigned.

  15. Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  16. Attend educational and business meetings as assigned with minimal travel required.

  17. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in health services, statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, public health, health policy or a related field

  2. Five years’ related work experience in health services research, statistics, data standards, data analysis or methods, health policy, health administration, health services, public health, health professions, or health related associations or organizations, including knowledge of HIPAA compliance, IRB procedures, data security and privacy aspects

  3. Computer skills, including familiarity with statistical evaluation tools, research databases, data warehouse, data marts, ETL, AI, Machine Learning, SQL, Tableau, Python, Jupyter, statistical packages such as SAS/STATA/SPSS/R Microstrategy, Relational databases, Access, and Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  4. Experience in analysis of administrative claims data and/or electronic health record data sources

  5. Familiarity with data and information models and interoperability roadmaps (e.g., ONC, HL-7, FHIR)

  6. Experience with handling and executing multiple priorities with both internal and external stakeholders

  7. Some knowledge of health policy issues, regulatory, reimbursement, clinical and/or quality issues

  8. Self-motivated, energetic, dependable, responsible, and resourceful.

  9. Ability to handle full range of delegated tasks, work independently, exercise good judgment, prioritize tasks, ability to adapt to shifting priorities and schedules, display strong personal initiative, and follow through in all areas assigned with attention to detail and timeliness

  10. Ability to build, establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  11. Excellent written and verbal communications skills

  12. Cooperative, tactful, and able to work under pressure, tight timelines, and competing priorities
