Welcome from the Chair

Reproductive healthcare is bread and butter emergency medicine. If I had a dollar for every patient I’ve cared for with first-trimester bleeding, ectopic pregnancy, early pregnancy loss, or an STI concern, I could probably retire right now.

No one’s willing to pay me that, so instead we built something better: ACEP’s new Reproductive Health Section. Our mission is to advance excellence and clarity in emergency department reproductive health care by empowering emergency physicians through evidence-based protocols, education, advocacy, and leadership. We are committed to ensuring that all patients receive safe, legal, patient-centered, evidence-based, and high-quality care while upholding ACEP’s commitment to emergency physician leadership and professional autonomy.

Now that we’re official, three asks:

  • Join the section, if you haven’t already. It connects you with other EM physicians who care about this work - and connecting with people over something you care about is one of the best cures for burnout.
  • If you’ve already joined the section, phone a friend. Not an email - an actual call. Tell them about the section, why you joined, and why they should too. There’s strength in numbers, and a phone call sparks a lot more joy than yet another email.
  • Last but not least - save the date! Our first section meeting is Tuesday, October 6th, from 1:00-2:00 pm CT at ACEP26 in Chicago. The Reproductive Health Section Happy Hour (co-hosted with the Early Career Physician Section, FemInEM, and Access Bridge) will be the same day from 4:30-6:00 pm CT, location TBD. More information to follow on both events.

See you in Chicago!
Lauren
