Joseph Palter, MD, has served as a senior content editor for Physician's Evaluation and Educational Review in Emergency Medicine (PEER) since 2020 and as a content contributor on the Editorial Board since 2016. Dr. Palter earned his doctor of medicine from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and completed his residency at Cook County Emergency Medicine Residency (Stroger Hospital) in Chicago, IL. He subsequently joined the faculty at Stroger Hospital of Cook County, where he currently serves as the associate medical director. He holds the title of assistant professor of emergency medicine via an academic affiliation with Rush Medical College.

Dr. Palter has lectured locally, regionally, and nationally on topics such as GI pathology, sepsis, and genitourinary pathology. He has also written textbook chapters in Hardwood-Nuss' Clinical Practice of Emergency Medicine, Avoiding Common Errors in the Emergency Department, and Rosen and Barkin's 5-Minute Emergency Medicine Consult. Dr. Palter’s areas of interest include medical education and emergency department administration, including research examining the roles of scribes and nurse staffing on performance metrics.
