Jennie Buchanan, MD, FACEP

Jennie Buchanan, MD, FACEP, has served as the senior module editor for PEERcert+ Social and Behavioral Health since 2020. Dr. Buchanan is currently an associate professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Denver Health and Hospital Authority/University of Colorado School of Medicine as well as associate program director for the Denver Health Residency in Emergency Medicine. She also serves as clinical faculty and toxicologist for Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Safety in Denver, a physician advisor for the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs), a Denver Health Nurseline physician, and a faculty advisor and longitudinal integrated curriculum section director in emergency medicine for Denver Health. Dr. Buchanan earned her doctor of medicine degree from the University of California San Diego School of Medicine. She completed an internship in reproductive medicine at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine; residency training in emergency medicine at Denver Health and Hospital Authority, where she served as chief resident elect; a fellowship in medical toxicology at the Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Center; and certification in emergency medicine ultrasound. Dr. Buchanan previously served as cochair for the State of Colorado SANE.

In addition to PEER, Dr. Buchanan has published numerous articles on a wide variety of toxicology topics, and she currently serves as a member of the Education Committee for the American College of Medical Toxicology. Dr. Buchanan is also a member of the Forensic Interest Group and Committee and the Toxicology Interest Group and Committee at ACEP, and she previously served on the ACEP Academic Affairs Committee to develop a training curriculum in sexual assault examination principles and procedures. She previously served as the cochair and chair for the CORD County Programs Community of Practice and on the CORD Member Best Practices Committee. Dr. Buchanan has won numerous awards throughout her career, including the Senior Teaching Award of Excellence, Denver Health Star Award, Peter T. Pons Award from Denver Health and Hospital Authority for clinical excellence, Outstanding Residency Teacher Award, Senior Residents Award for Outstanding Service, and Vincent J. Markovchick Program Director’s Award.
