Bicycle Safety

You came to the emergency department (ED) after being in a bicycle crash. We evaluated you and did not identify any life threatening injuries. You will likely be sore after the accident from bruising and stretching of your ligaments - this should improve within two weeks.

To Do:

  • You can take acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Motrin/Advil) for pain as directed on the dosing instructions.
  • Always wear a helmet while riding your bike.
  • Use flashing lights on the front and back of your bike and a reflective vest if riding at night to increase your visibility.
  • Try to use dedicated bicycle lanes, if possible, while biking near traffic.
  • Follow up with your primary care doctor within one week to monitor your injuries.

Come back immediately if you develop a severe headache, weakness in your arms/legs, vision changes, chest pain, shortness of breath, other new or concerning symptoms, or if you get worse.

Review prescription inserts for side effects and call the ED if you have any questions about your medications or care.
