The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) affirms that peer review of emergency medicine practice by any entity including state licensing boards should be performed by a physician who is currently licensed in a state, territory or area constituting legal jurisdiction of the US as a doctor of medicine or osteopathic medicine; be certified by a recognized certifying body in emergency medicine1 and be in active clinical practice of emergency medicine in the same or similar circumstance for at least five years immediately preceding the date of the occurrence giving rise to the review.
