Dr. Whiteside is an emergency physician at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. Her research focuses on the intersection of emergency medicine, substance use, mental health and injury. In August 2015, she received a NIDA K23 titled "A Longitudinal Collaborative Care Model for Patients with Prescription Opioid Misuse Utilizing the ED for Care," which will adapt existing collaborative care models for the emergency department setting to specifically target prescription opioid misuse by decreasing care fragmentation thus improving transitions in care. Starting in 2017, she served as the site-PI for a multi-site trial funded by NIDA to evaluate the effectiveness and implementation of ED-initiation of buprenorphine for patients with opioid use disorder.
