Regular members do not include, candidate, international, life, inactive or honorary members.
Regular members are physicians who devote a significant portion of their medical endeavors to Emergency medicine. They are licensed in the state, province, territory or foreign country in which they practice, or are serving in a governmental medical assignment. They must also fulfill a postgraduate education requirement every three years. The vast majority of the members are in the United States.
Inactive members who are unable to engage in active practice may, upon application, be elected to this classification by the Board of Directors.
Regular members who have retired from medical practice for any reason.
Persons of distinction who have rendered outstanding service to the College or to the medical profession, or distinguished members of the College who have retired from practice, may be elected to honorary membership.
Any regular member who has been a member of the College for a minimum of 30 years in any class shall be assigned to life status. Any member previously designated as a life member under any prior definition shall retain life status.
Any medical or osteopathic student, intern or physician participating in an emergency medicine residency or fellowship program.
Physicians interested in emergency medicine who are not a resident of the United States or a possession thereof, and who are licensed to practice medicine by the government within whose jurisdiction such physician resides and practices.
Members of the College who are either active, life, honorary or international members for three continuous years prior to election and are currently certified in emergency medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or in pediatric emergency medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics. They must have three years of active involvement in emergency medicine as their chief professional activity, exclusive of training. Additionally they must meet three of ten additional criteria demonstrating their involvement in activities such as hospital affairs, teaching, research, administration, etc.

Once uploaded, please click on the “Send” button and then follow the directions on the next page to remit payment and finalize your request.
You will also receive a submission acknowledgement e-mail that reflects the application details based on your form entries. If staff are unavailable to take your call, please leave a detailed message and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
