John Proctor, MD, MBA, FACEP, FAAP

Dr. Proctor is a diplomat of the American Board of Emergency Medicine, with sub-board certification in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine for the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center. He is a member of the American Medical Association Reimbursement Update Committee (RUC), past chair of the RUC Relativity Assessment Workgroup, and formerly a member of the Joint Commission Ambulatory Accreditation Professional Technical Advisory Committee. Dr. Proctor represented Emergency Medicine on the 2020 AMA CPT-RUC sub-workgroup on Emergency Department Evaluation and Management CPT code change recommendations, which were adopted for implementation in 2023 by the CMS. Dr. Proctor has held numerous leadership and educational roles with prestigious healthcare organizations, overseeing operations of over 160 Emergency Departments (EDs), Freestanding EDs, urgent care centers, and retail clinics with approximately 2.6 million annual patient visits. Dr. Proctor is the author of numerous book chapters, white papers, and peer-reviewed journal articles and is section editor of Emergency Department Operations section for the textbook, Emergency Department Management by Strauss and Mayer, McGraw-Hill Education, Inc., 2014, 2021.
