Emergency Ultrasound

Chair’s Corner

By John Bailitz, MD, FACEP

Many thanks to Co-Editors Laleh Gharahbaghian and Michael Zwank on another great year of educational and entertaining ACEP US Newsletters. Congratulations to Dr. Sandy Schneider on her promotion to Associate Executive Director of Practice, Policy and Academic Affairs. Julie Rispoli is our Ultrasound Section Staff Liaison.

As the current, immediate past (Resa Lewiss) and Elect (Matt Fields) section chairs, we accomplished three main goals in 2015-2016. The first goal was to help everyone better connect and network by facilitating the Subcommittee efforts and completing phase one of our website’s updating. The second goal was to create a more effective leadership structure by updating our operational guidelines that were unanimously approved at our annual meeting. The third goal was to help our community decide how to create the subspecialty of clinical ultrasound. Hopefully by now everyone has spoken to their local ACGME office, Department Chair, and other local EM subspecialty fellowship directors about the pros and cons. ABEM representatives continue to attend all major EM US meetings to share updates from ABMS and listen to our community.

Emergency ultrasound is among the largest and most productive sections in the college. We are all improving patient care and medical education through clinical ultrasound everyday. Thank you for the opportunity to serve!
