Some of you may have seen this document. Our hospital echo lab maintains Intersocietal Accreditation Commission for echocardiography and has argued that our limited bedside echocardiograms do not meet these standards and that our practice will cause them to lose their accreditation.

I am still in the midst of discussions over this, but I am wondering if anyone has had similar discussions/arguments with their cardiologists or in their hospitals and would be willing to share any tips, experiences that may help us.

A quick summary of the requirements for echocardiograms per this accrediting body

-specifies application to all echocardiograms performed at a single address

-Very rigorous standards for training of physicians and staff

-Very detailed requirements for views, measurements, reporting that very few if any, ED programs are interested in or capable of meeting (I think)

Thanks for any tips or help. I will give an update when I have a resolution.

Joe
