What is New York ACEP
Chartered by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) in 1973, New York ACEP is the professional organization that represents emergency physicians in the state of New York. With over 2,200 members, New York ACEP is proud to be one of the largest and most active chapters in the country working to support quality emergency care by representing the unique perspective of emergency medicine.
New York ACEP works for the highest principles of our specialty to the benefit of our physicians and patients. New York ACEP is a democratic organization with an elected board and is a unifying force for emergency medicine physicians facing practice challenges in a variety of settings. New York ACEP is a respected, expert and united voice for emergency medicine.
The New York ACEP Board of Directors and Committee Members are a very diverse group of practicing emergency physicians. They include academicians, private practice physicians, large group, small group, individual physicians, board certified, non-board certified, rural, urban, residents, medical students, democrats, republicans and independents. Our Board represents all practice settings and the full range of emergency medicine experience. This diversity and unity gives us strength to pursue our common goals.
New York ACEP exists to promote quality emergency medical care and to represent the interests of New York State emergency physicians. This includes involvement in education of medical students, residents, emergency physicians, our patients, and the public. We promote policies that preserve the integrity and independence of emergency medical practice. We support emergency physician representation within medical organizations and academic institutions. New York ACEP represents the interests of all New York emergency physicians.
New York ACEP Committees
Would you like to be involved? New York ACEP has a diverse group of committees, bringing members together to address the full range of issues facing emergency physicians. New York ACEP responds to and supports the needs of members through attention to reimbursement issues, professional insurance concerns, and works to improve the practice environment for the emergency physician. New York ACEP works with leaders in prehospital care to create a partnership between physicians and field providers for the constant improvement of emergency medical care.

New York ACEP provides quality, focused education to foster growth in graduate medical education for emergency medicine in New York State. As a strong, unified professional organization, we have taken many steps to empower emergency physicians and protect our patients. We bring the viewpoint of emergency medicine directly to the legislators and policy makers who shape the delivery of health care in New York State. New York ACEP monitors potential key legislation and regulatory changes to proactively represent the interests of emergency physicians and develop liaisons with the people who shape the delivery of health care.
New York ACEP has contracted with Weingarten, Reid & McNally, one of the most reputable lobbying groups in the state, to keep apprised of bills introduced in Albany and to introduce legislation on behalf of New York ACEP. Our primary focus includes:

Both New York ACEP staff and individual members have worked to form relationships on a state level resulting in open communication, increased visibility, and inclusion with agencies and organizations such as the New York State Department of Health, the New York State Legislature, the Healthcare Association of New York State, and the Medical Society of the State of New York.
