Emergency medicine in West Virginia is facing numerous challenges in an era of rapid change. West Virginia ACEP is working diligently to safeguard your interests, in both the personal and professional realm. We implore you to join us in protecting our patients and our specialty.
The West Virginia Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians is your voice to achieve these goals!
Who Is WV ACEP?
The WV ACEP Board of Directors and the Chapter's leadership represent a very diverse group of practicing emergency physicians - academicians, private practice physicians, large group, small group, individual physicians, hospital-based groups, board certified, non-board certified, rural, residents, medical students, democrats, republicans and independents.
Despite the varied backgrounds, they work together for the common goal of furthering the specialty of emergency medicine in West Virginia. WV ACEP IS YOU!
WV ACEP Committees and Task Forces
Work with your colleagues on issues that you care about. WV ACEP has a diverse group of committees and task forces, bringing members together, to address the full range of issues facing emergency medicine. Please identify the ones that interest you.

CME approved courses are offered on a variety of timely topics, at the Winter Conference and at the annual meeting. WV ACEP strives to meet the current educational needs of emergency physicians with cost effective, conveniently located meetings. Members enjoy considerable savings at the WV ACEP meetings.
One of the key values of WV ACEP membership is having your rights and interests represented in the halls of the State Capitol. As a strong, unified professional association, we have taken several steps to protect our patients, and to empower physicians. We have enjoyed several important successes as a result.
We monitor the numerous bills that are introduced during the legislative session, and introduce some of our own. Most recent activities include:
- Medical Liability Reform
- Enacting ATV Legislation
- Maintaining the Motorcycle Helmet Law
- Enacting the Prudent Layperson Bill
WV ACEP staff and members have worked diligently to form strong relationships throughout the State - resulting in open communications, increased visibility, and inclusion on task forces, councils and commissions at every level. We work closely with the House, Senate, and Government Administration, the West Virginia State Medical Association, the West Virginia Hospital Association, the West Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services, the West Virginia Nurses Association, and third party payer representatives.
WV ACEP Goals
WV ACEP is committed to protect the longevity and future of individual physicians, our patients and emergency medicine as a specialty. This includes involvement in the education of medical students, residents, emergency physicians, our patients, and the general public.
We promote policies that preserve the integrity and independence of emergency medical practice. We support emergency physician representation, within medical organizations and academic institutions. WV ACEP represents the interest of all West Virginia emergency physicians.
