What we stand for

Three vehicles collide on the interstate; multiple patients need access to timely emergency medical care. Ambulances arrive, but it will take 45 minutes to drive to the trauma center and the most seriously injured patient may not survive. Soon a medical helicopter arrives; the medical crew intubates the patient, gives blood during transport, and arrives at the trauma center 18 minutes later.

Your mother has a myocardial infarction and is given thrombolytics but she does not reperfuse. The closest interventional catheterization laboratory is 210 miles away, on another Hawaiian island. Can she get there? A medical fixed wing aircraft is utilized and during transport the medical crew successfully cardioverts her ventricular tachycardia.

Your 5 year old daughter has a severe asthma attack and is intubated at the local hospital. The closest pediatric intensive care unit is an hour-and-a-half away. Who has the skills to manage her bronchospasm, ventilator, and sedation during transfer and get her there safely?
