Gillian Schmitz, MD, FACEP
Dr. Schmitz is an Associate Professor at the Uniformed Services University and an emergency physician at Brooke Army Medical Center San Antonio, TX. She serves on the national Board of Directors and is the President for the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP).
Dr. Schmitz is a co-author of several chapters in risk management books: Emergency Medicine Bouncebacks and Bouncebacks Pediatrics. She has been an invited guest on several podcasts including Risk Management Monthly and EM Reviews and Perspectives on medical legal topics. She served on ACEP’s Medical Legal Committee and has been an invited national speaker on risk management, deposition prep, and managing litigation stress. She has reviewed cases for defense attorneys and served as an expert witness to defend emergency physicians. She served on her departmental and hospital risk management committees and ACEP’s Peer to Peer Counseling Program.
Dr. Schmitz has won a number of teaching and mentoring awards at the University of North Carolina, Georgetown University, and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She is a recipient of the National Early Career Faculty Award through the Academy for Women in Academic Emergency Medicine (AWAEM) and the Early Career Achievement Award from the Loyola Stritch School of Medicine.
