"It is not uncommon for us to have more boarding patients in our ED than we have beds. People with appendicitis, open fractures, renal failure sit in the waiting room for up to a day waiting for a bed to open up on an in patient floor. It is impossible to provide safe and thorough care to our vulnerable patient population when they spend their entire ED stay in the waiting room."

We are a >900 bed hospital with boarding since last summer, daily from 25-70.
