Medical Students

EMRA/Dr. Alexandra Greene Medical Student Award

This award recognizes a senior student (3rd or 4th year) who displays a significant dedication to emergency medicine. Most importantly, this student goes out of his or her way for patients and colleagues. This student demonstrates compassion and professionalism even when faced with difficult situations and stresses.

EMRA Medical Student Council

Each year, 24 students from across the country are selected to serve on EMRA's Medical Student Council (MSC). This is a phenomenal opportunity to become more involved in the field of EM, network with students and faculty from coast to coast, and develop resources to assist fellow students navigate medical school and the residency application process.

WEMS, which was established to encourage gender diversity, supports 4th-year medical students interested in a 4-week clerkship/away-rotation at the University of Iowa’s renowned Department of Emergency Medicine.

ACEP Leadership and Advocacy

The 2018 Leadership & Advocacy Conference (LAC) will celebrate emergency medicine’s accomplishments and continue to work for a better political environment for our specialty and our patients. The goal at this conference is to highlight and advocate for legislation advancing emergency care, regardless of party labels.

EMRA Scientific Review Subcommittee Appointment

This honor is given to a senior resident or fellow who has demonstrated interest in an EM research career. The award provides for membership on ACEP's Scientific Review Subcommittee, which reviews and scores the EMF grant applications, provides constructive written feedback on applications, helps develop new research ideas, and mentors young investigators.

Robert J. Doherty Teaching Fellowship Scholarship

This scholarship is for the resident/fellow or junior faculty member and covers tuition for the EMF/ACEP Teaching Fellowship, an intensive course in faculty development. ELAM is a year-long part-time fellowship for women faculty in schools of medicine, dentistry, and public health. Johns Hopkins Faculty Development Longitudinal Program in Teaching Skills: Part I

This program enables participants to explore concepts and learn skills related to teaching and relationship‐building with medical trainees, patients, and colleagues. Concepts are generally presented in total group sessions among all participants. However, most of the course time is spent in collaborative learning groups of 6‐8 participants with 1‐2 facilitators who stay together throughout the course. Individuals bring teaching challenges to the group, use reflection, dialogue, and feedback to get others’ perspectives, practice the skills being learned, and observe others.

ACEP ED Director’s Academy (EDDA) Phases I, II, III and IV

A series of lectures and didactics aimed at developing future leaders in emergency medicine. ACEP’s EDDA delivers tried-and-true solutions to ED issues taught by a group of experienced practitioners and management experts. Participants enhance their ED leadership skills through a series of lectures, breakout sessions, and small-group case studies – all culminating in an independent study.

Emergency Medicine Basic Research Skills (EMBRS) Workshop

EMBRS is a 10-day, 2-session program that provides a broad overview of EM research basics – from idea conception to IRB approval to final presentation and publication. Participants will learn how to identify clinical research opportunities and become familiar with clinical research and outcomes, injury prevention, health care delivery and effectiveness research.
